In an increasingly digital world, businesses and entrepreneurs are looking for ways to create more personal connections online with their customers.
As a result, Typeform, created VideoAsk, a software that allows you to manage your interactions with customers and get almost face-to-face with your audience.
To help you learn more about this marketing software, we’ve broken it down into a step-by-step tutorial for how to use it and all of its included features and functions.
What is VideoAsk?
VideoAsk is a tool that allows you to have more meaningful interactions through using a video. In the digital world, being able to show face (literally) can separate you and your business from the rest.
VideoAsk allows you to create videos through a sleek and easy-to-use dashboard that can be used for things like feedback, lead generation, job applications, video testimonials, and more!
Using advanced technology, VideoAsk allows you to have one-on-one conversations at scale. Using things like conditional logic, multiple response options, and contact forms to create a seamless and interactive conversation.
Your VideoAsk videos can also be embedded on any web page. (See video landing page examples for inspiration.)
No coding required, just copy, and paste the code directly into the backend of your website. It will also create a shareable link that you can easily send to clients and customers. They will be able to respond to your video directly with a video of their own, audio recording, or selecting any of the predetermined options you have chosen.
You can easily customize your VideoAsk to be as long or as short as you want, including multiple videos, question prompts, etc.
How is VideoAsk most commonly used?
These interactive videos allow you to personalize your lead generation funnels with personable videos. More personable content means higher quality leads and higher rates of conversion.
Make your hiring process easier and quicker by using pre-recorded videos to screen your applicants. Popularly used among businesses who require audition videos as it makes it easy to screen and select the best.
VideoAsk allows businesses to create more personable sales experiences that help answer commonly asked questions by customers. Businesses that offer programs or courses enjoy using VideoAsk because it allows them to answer commonly asked questions during the customers purchasing journey rather than leaving them unanswered or spammed with email.
Collecting testimonials in video format makes for more engaging content when sharing feedback from your customers. Entrepreneurs who offer courses love using VideoAsk as a means of gathering their testimonials and sharing their success stories.
Business owners use VideoAsk as a new way of engaging with their audience. Imagine sending an email to a marketing consultant and them replying to all of your questions in a responsive video. It makes for a much more engaging conversation and helps build strong relationships.

How do you use VideoAsk?
Here’s a step-by-step VideoAsk tutorial to help you get started!
1. Creating Your VideoAsk Account
Creating an account is simple, quick, and free!. Head over to their sign-up page, just enter your name, email, and preferred password to get started. You can also create an account using your Apple ID or an existing Typeform account.
Once you create your account, if you wish to upgrade to any of the paid plans, you can easily do so to access the extra features.
Once you have created your account, it will bring you to the main dashboard. Here you can see all of your VideoAsk’s, interactions, contacts, and templates. This makes it easy to see all of your videoask’s in one place along with all of the interactions and responses resulting from each one.
2. Creating Your First VideoAsk
To get started on creating your first videoask, simply click on the button ‘Create your 1st videoask’ and it will take you through the necessary steps.
You will be prompted to give your VideoAsk a name, along with choosing whether you want to collect contact details from your viewers and changing the language.
To create a VideoAsk, you can do so in one of four ways.
You can record yourself using the webcam, screen share to screen record your desktop, upload a video that you have already recorded, or access an existing video in your library. For the sake of this tutorial, we will be uploading a video to gather feedback from clients.
Once you have selected ‘Upload’ and chosen your desired file (with a max size of 300MB), VideoAsk will confirm whether or not your file was successfully uploaded. Once you get the go-ahead and your ‘File is Ok!’ then you can hit continue.
Now you will be prompted to enter any overlay text. This is where you will want to prompt your viewers with any questions or comments; it can be explaining what you would like from their response, an introduction to yourself/your brand, etc. Overlay text is not necessary but makes for a more engaging experience.
There are advanced features as well that allow you to pipe variables (e.g. name) into the overlay text. You can also edit the text size, darken the video for readability, and adjust the size if necessary.
Now that you have uploaded your video, prompted your audience with any overlay text, it’s time to create your settings for how to collect responses.
3. Customer Response Collection
Choose from various settings to customize the method in which you receive responses. VideoAsk allows you to pick from answer types like open-ended, where viewers have the freedom to choose between video, audio, or text. Multiple choice, where you can type out different options you want your viewers to choose from.
You can also give the choice of a simple call-to action button, or link to your calendar to schedule calls.
In paid plans, you are also able to choose from answer options like starting a live call, net promoter score, having your viewers upload files, or collecting payment from them. Once you’re satisfied with your settings, hit done!
It will then prompt you to see if you want to collect contact details. Your viewers will be able to submit their responses based on your desired answer type and then submit their contact details.
You can choose which collection fields are required, like name, email, and phone number. You can also add a consent check where you can upload legal text regarding your company’s policies on collecting and distributing data, usage rights, etc.
4. Editing Your VideoAsk
Once you hit done, if you click on the next tab ‘Video’ you will be able to edit the video settings. This means editing things like formatting, size adjustments, adding closed captions, editing text size, and more.
You will also be able to edit your overlay text at this point if you wish to change it from what you originally entered.
If you’re satisfied with your video, you can press done and move onto the ‘Logic’ of your VideoAsk This is ultimately telling your video where you want to direct the viewer once they’ve finished.
You can select the default ‘End Screen’ or insert your own redirect link if you wish to redirect them elsewhere.
5. VideoAsk Settings & Customization
Click done and you will then be zoomed out to see the VideoAsk consumer journey from start to finish. If you look in the bottom left corner you will see the ‘Settings’ button. Click on this and you will be given even further editing and styling options.
Within the settings, the ‘General’ tab allows you to customize your VideoAsk to match your branding. Giving you the choice to choose colours, language, fonts, captioning, shareability, and more.
The ‘Recording’ tab lets you choose your preferred recording method. Meaning that you can choose the method in which your viewers respond to your video.
Whether it’s ‘Streamed’ and recorded on servers, like a Zoom call, or ‘Uploaded’ where it’s recorded on the user’s device and then uploaded to the servers.
Next, you’ll be able to customize the ‘Thumbnail.’ This allows you to select the specific thumbnail that will be used when sharing on social media platforms.
6. VideoAsk Advanced Settings
The last tab in the settings, is the advanced settings; these are all the extra features that you’ll want to consider when creating your VideoAsk Things like show video controls, autoplay, transcripts, profanity filters, and more.
If you’re ever unsure about a specific feature, VideoAsk makes it easy by including explanations for each one, simply click on the ‘?’ beside the feature in question to learn more.
Lastly, once you hit done, you’ll be able to see your VideoAsk from start to finish. The great part is that you can continue to edit and add videos, questions, etc. Make your VideoAsk as short or as long as you like!
Now you’re all done and can preview your VideoAsk from start to finish, make any final changes, and share the link with your intended audience!
